Pakistani automotive market has witnessed a substantial increase in the previous fiscal year, where the car sales went up to 179,944 units in 2015, as reported by PAMA. But there’s still a tremendous room for the market to be explored by the Foreign Companies. The proof is evident by the Toyota Indus trying to operate at its full capacity to meet all the orders and to clear all the backlogs of thousands of vehicles. Furthermore, it is argued that the foreign investors shy away d...

Pakistan, with its small market of just 180,000 cars sold last fiscal year, is pushing to break the Japanese control over its market by inviting the European automakers. The big vacuum in the Pakistani automotive market between 1-10 lac rupees can’t be attended by any of the European automakers. Fiat has one or maybe two cars that may become available in that range, but frankly, the Europeans and the Japanese are pushing hard to win the Indian market and so, the development of smal...

The government of Pakistan is trying to bring new automobile manufacturers in Pakistan in a bid to not only increase the foreign investment but also to shed the hold of Japanese automakers on Pakistan’s auto sector. The new auto policy was developed by keeping the interests of potential new investments in the auto sector. With the new auto policy giving hope to the people of Pakistan, we will have to see if hope materializes to substantial progress by the auto industry. The result was the elimination of Nexus, Nissan, Dewan (Hyundai/Kia) and Adams motors, all of which were operating assembly lines, leaving the playing field for Suzuki, Toyota and Honda only. ...

Nissan has seen some good times in Pakistan back in the day. Long when they were mostly known as Datsun, back in the late 70s and early 80s, they had quite a fan following. Datsun 120Y was a great a car and was widely praised and liked. I know a handful of people who learnt to drive in one of these cars. But after that, they started launching some weak models that could exactly compete with Corolla in the mid-80s to early 90s, and after that, there was Honda to compete as well. When local ass...
